Retreats

"Some people, in order to discover God, read books. But there is a great book: the very appearance of created things. Look above you! Look below you! Read it. God, whom you want to discover, never wrote that book with ink. Instead, He set before your eyes the things that He had made. Can you ask for a louder voice than that?”

St. Augustine

It's this wonder and reverence for the natural world, which includes all of human existence too, that I hope to be able to entwine with classical yoga and meditation practice on retreat. There is no substitute for being amongst the wild things and the wild places. It calls out to us, to our hearts - it calls us to remember our place in the miracle that is Life. When I lived at Mandala Yoga Ashram we would often chant Nache Bholenath in our evening sessions - it means Shiva (Consciousness, Essential Being, God - you choose) is Dancing. We are the dance, and the dancer - and so are the otters, the trees, the birds, the butterflies - and we are all part of it.
