"Some people, in order to discover God, read books. But there is a great book: the very appearance of created things. Look above you! Look below you! Read it. God, whom you want to discover, never wrote that book with ink. Instead, He set before your eyes the things that He had made. Can you ask for a louder voice than that?”

St. Augustine

It's this wonder and reverence for the natural world, which includes all of human existence too, that I hope to be able to entwine with classical yoga and meditation practice on retreat. There is no substitute for being amongst the wild things and the wild places. It calls out to us, to our hearts - it calls us to remember our place in the miracle that is Life. When I lived at Mandala Yoga Ashram we would often chant Nache Bholenath in our evening sessions - it means Shiva (Consciousness, Essential Being, God - you choose) is Dancing. We are the dance, and the dancer - and so are the otters, the trees, the birds, the butterflies - and we are all part of it.

For details of upcoming retreats see below.

Sun 18th - Sat 24th June 2017

Fri 24th - Sun 26th Nov

Holy Island, Lindisfarne, Northumberland

Come and join this 6-day/6-night retreat in this truly magical setting. Our time together will include hatha yoga, meditation, yoga nidra and time for discussion. We will spend a half day with the breeding seabirds of Inner Farne (weather permitting) - the island where St. Cuthbert spent many years in solitary retreat. There are literally tens of thousands of breeding seabirds including puffins, guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and Arctic Terns. We will be utterly surrounded by this profusion of life and it is an awe inspiring spectacle.

We will also aim to complete the final stage of the Cuthbert Trail making our own pilgrimage across the tidal mudflats to Holy Island.

As important will be  time for personal space and reflection - Holy Island is a powerful place for those who seek. Time spent together in practice here will no doubt be a gift to all of us.

£475-00 per person (maximum of 8 participants) - this includes accommodation (in shared rooms), nearly all meals and teachings. Additional costs such as the boat trip to Inner Farne are not included. The accommodation is simple yet very comfortable and we will be very well looked after with care and attention. The home cooked food at the centre is fabulous and there's home cooked cake every afternoon!!
